Knuze

So for the first time since forever I've exceeded my monthly Internet allowance, which means my Internet has been capped and is now about as fast as Stephen Hawking sans wheelchair. Seriously, it's so slow that I actually cleaned my room today. Stupid uTorrent.

As a result, I probably won't be posting much until September 1st, when everything goes back to normal. It's a wonder how anyone ever did anything online before broadband-speed Internet.

In other news, work is going well. I'm still working on this series of educational activity books. I've got a couple books left. My clients' have been wonderful. They're easy to deal with and always pay right on time. I'd link them, but there's nothing happening on their site yet. Ah what the heck, here you go.

Now that I have some disposable income for the first time in my life, I've recently discovered the wonders of buying things. I really must make use of my savings account before I do something stupid like buy an acoustic guitar.

Um, what else? Kellogg's All-Bran Baked Bars are crazy good AND good FOR you. Good for your guts. You heard it here first.

Love from Joe.

A Public Service Announcement

So apparently I was being racist by not drawing enough kids of colour for the books I'm working on. I was asked politely to "pop in a dark kid" here and there.

Tokenism is the real winner today, friends.

Threadless!

Okay, so my design has been accepted and now you can vote on it.

Perfuct World

Here's something a little different from my usual flat, hard edged shading. I suppose the subject matter's a little different as well. Had fun doing this. Props to my mate Steve for giving me a hand with the beer spillage.

My favourite art blogs

I don't often post links to other artists. Maybe it's because I don't want my loyal followers (all three of them) to become aware of all the brilliant stuff out there and leave me forever, never to return. Please don't leave me forever.

Drawn! The Illustrating and Cartooning Blog
http://www.drawn.ca/
Constantly updated with the sweetest links to cool goings-on in the illustrating world. I've discovered some of my favourite artists through this blog.

GabeArt
http://pennyarcadeart.blogspot.com/
The blog of Mike Krahulik, a.k.a. "Gabe" of Penny Arcade. It's not updated that often, but it's nice to see some of his rougher work.

All Kinds of Stuff
http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/
The blog of John K, creator of Ren and Stimpy. His knowledge of cartooning is extraordinary. Every time I leave this blog I feel like I've just been given a lesson in cartooning from one of the greats. A large emphasis on "golden era" cartooning.

Old Men With Kazoos and Beating Drums
http://kalikazoo.blogspot.com/
A blog by Kali Fontecchio, a prodigious girl who I grow ever more envious of every time I visit.

Uncle Eddie's Theory Corner
http://uncleeddiestheorycorner.blogspot.com/
The blog of Eddie Fitzgerald, cartooning great. He's always posting interesting art things that get you thinking. An emphasis on the retro.

Process Recess
http://www.processrecess.com/
The blog of illustrating superstar James Jean. I try not to look too closely when I visit, for fear of dying of envy.

Pascal Campion
http://pascalcampion.blogspot.com/
French dude who just has the most fun, cute, loose and wonderfully alive drawings. Jealous.

Mike Laughead
http://mikelaughead.blogspot.com/
American dude with a great style and texture.

Emmy's Art
http://drawthings.blogspot.com/
Very cute drawings from an American gal.

Vera's Particular Sketchblog
http://verabee.blogspot.com/
American gal I discovered through Flight. Great drawings.

I could go on, but all this great art has dejected me enough for one day.

New "Threadless" shirt design!

After being rejected for a previous design, I've decided once again to submit something to Threadless.

I'm still waiting on approval before anyone will be able to vote on it, but that should be happening pretty soon.

What do you reckon? Would you wear this on a T-shirt?

Aminals

This is something I did for the job I'm working on at the moment. I don't usually do stuff like this, but they asked for a more "realistic" style for a particular page. This was about all the realism I could muster:

Compare that with something of my more usual "cartoon-y" style, as people like to call it:

My Buddy Jesus!

Here's a character design sketch for one of my many potential projects. I just came up with this one today, although there are plenty of others that I've been thinking about for a while. This is still in the embryonic stage, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be called "My Buddy Jesus!"

Just looking at it again, I think the beard may come off.
